The conference, which will be presided over by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, will begin with a special video address from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) estimates that 200 delegations will be present.

As the G-20’s current chair, India is hosting the gathering.

The Voice of the Global South Summit was held by India in January, and the decisions made at the Varanasi meeting will also influence the UN Summit on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in September, according to the MEA. The G-20 development ministers’ meeting follows the Voice of the Global South Summit.
It said in a statement that the meeting in Varanasi is taking place in the midst of growing developmental challenges that have been made worse by economic slowdown, debt distress, climate change effects, increases in poverty and inequality, insecurity surrounding food and energy, disruptions in global supply chains, and geopolitical conflicts and tensions.

“The G-20 development ministerial meeting will be an opportunity to collectively agree on actions for accelerating the achievement of the SDGs and foster synergies between the development, environment, and climate agendas while avoiding costly trade-offs that hold back progress for the developing countries,” the MEA stated.

Two main sessions—one on “Multilateralism: Collective Actions for Accelerating Progress towards SDGs” and the other on “Green Development: A Life (Lifestyle for Environment) Approach”—will make up the summit.

The fourth and last development working group (DWG) meeting, which took place in Delhi from June 6 to 9, came before the gathering of development ministers.

The DWG has carried out its task of boosting the G20’s commitment to accelerate progress towards SDGs and strengthening G20 long-term vision in this regard while building on the significant work done by past G-20 presidencies. G20 Summit in Varanasi

In order to provide the delegates a glimpse of Varanasi’s rich history and traditions, one of the oldest cities in the world, cultural activities, exhibitions, and excursions have also been planned, according to the MEA.
